GREATER: 21 Days of Prayer - DAY 2
Blessings Grace City Family!
As we enter 2019, our first prayer focus for our 21 Days of Prayer is the salvation of the lost. Jesus Christ emphatically stated, “For the Son of Man (referring to himself) came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10) This week we are specifically praying for a greater awakening of lost souls to come home to Jesus.
In Luke chapter 15, Jesus tells 3 parables about lost things being found. He describes the rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents and turns to God. Today we will read and reflect on the first two parables and tomorrow we’ll read and reflect on the third. As we read, we are asking God to instill in us His heart for the lost and we are asking God to reach out His hand in our city and in our circle of influence to bring home the lost.
"Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
WHO ARE YOU PRAYING FOR?
Who are the names of those you know who are lost and need to be found? Pray that the Lord would draw them home and use you, use us His followers, to seek the lost.
Father in heaven, we are asking that you would instill in us at the beginning of this new year a greater love for the lost, a greater urgency and fervency to see sinners repent and come to know the freedom and joy of being found by You. Lord, all over our city, our valley…and everywhere we have relationships and influence, would 2019 be a year of rejoicing over lives saved, welcomed home, found. You are a great Savior, the Good Shepherd, the great Seeker of the lost… Thank you for finding me, finding us and working the miracle of repentance in our hearts that we might desire to know you, love you, and follow you all the days of our lives. Empower us to help and lead others to do the same. Help us to that end. Lord we ask that this be the year for (input the names on your mind/heart!) _________, & __________, & ____________ … Reach them Father, find them and bring them home… You are worthy of praise and we thank you for your constant outpouring of grace upon our lives… give us eyes to see where you are at work among us and around us and within us… we give you our lives anew in 2019…Use us for your glory…Amen!
