18: Lord, Make Us A Radiant Church
**To kick off our Daniel series, and in preparation for moving into our new home on October 18th, the elders have invited our church family to a 28-day season of prayer and fasting. These daily devotionals correspond with the 28-day Bible reading countdown to the day we celebrate our soft opening.**
Paul has shifted his emphasis from WHO WE ARE in chapters 1-3 (because of the glorious grace of the gospel) to HOW WE LIVE in chapters 4-6 (still because of the glorious grace of the gospel)!
We are called to live as children of the Light.
To walk in unity and love and purity and truth and wisdom.
These are the things we can pray for one another and for the Church of Jesus.
And these are the things we can graciously remind one another of and courageously expect of those who take on the name “Christian”.
Think we’re in need of a revival in the Church? I do.
In fact, as I read Ephesians 5 again, I came to the section on Marriage. (Or is it a section on the Church?!) I was struck by verses 26-27.
**Quick check… to the marriages of Grace City… how is the love and respect and servanthood flowing in your marriage? If your marriage is a picture of Christ & the Church (which it is) - how’s it doing? What conversation is needed next? Husbands…lead in repentance and lovingly serve your wives. Wives…build up your man and make sure he knows you respect him and support him. Let’s pray for the marriages of Grace City!**
Now to v. 26-27… we’ll get the context by starting at v. 25...
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (26) to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through word, (27) and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”
Again, I’ll ask…think we’re in need of a revival in the Church? I do. And I see an incredible description of it and prescription for it right here.
How is the Church made holy? How is the Church cleansed? Revived? Made Radiant?
How is the Church cleansed and made radiant without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish? Holy & blameless?
BY THE WASHING WITH WATER THROUGH THE WORD.
And here we are… reading and reflecting on the Word of God together. Think it could make a difference?
Let’s pray for the washing and cleansing of the Word in our lives and in our church family, that we would be a radiant church!
Soaking with you,
Additional Prayer Requests:
