Who Is Jesus Devo: Jesus Drops the Mic S2 E2
“He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” — Luke 4:16-21
The Prophecy-Fulfilling Messiah
Jesus was and is “the Anointed One”… the Messiah. His message was His mission. He came not just to proclaim but to accomplish and secure the outcome of freedom. There is good news for the poor (the spiritually poor & needy, all of us!), freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, liberty for the oppressed and grace for those who recognize their need!
When Jesus read from Isaiah’s scroll and sat down, you could have heard a pin drop. Everyone’s jaw dropped. “Did he just say that? Did he just do that? Wait…does this mean… you mean, He’s saying…??”
Yep… He’s saying He’s the One. And He’s here. It’s happening and it’s happening starting right here, right now.
This is the equivalent of the greatest mic drop in the history of the universe. God’s plan of redemption has arrived. The Redeemer is at hand. The King is here. Salvation is available. And his name is Jesus Christ. Isaiah wrote of him and looked forward to the day when this would be fulfilled. And friend, that day has come. Let your heart believe!
May we personally and collectively receive and embrace the truth of who Jesus is. May we experience personally and collectively the liberty He brings. And may we carry on the message and mission of this good news in the power of the Holy Spirit to all those in need. Lord Jesus, use me, use us to proclaim and extend the freedom you offer!
