MEET THE PROS
ROBIN CAREY
Hi, my name is Robin Carey. I grew up in Wenatchee, lived in the Bellevue/Renton area most of my adult life, and moved back to this area in 2015, largely because my father was in need of more support. For many years my mom’s health had been deteriorating and she went to be with the Lord not long before I moved back. My father, sisters and I dealt with managing her declining health over many years, and eventually walked through hospice decisions with her before she passed away at age 84. My parents had been married 64 years.
Currently I am the primary support for my father who is 92 years old and lives with me. He is somewhat independent, which is a blessing and at times a struggle. He has been diagnosed with vascular dementia. He hopes to live to be 100 and he might make it! I work full time and understand the challenging role reversal of parenting a parent. It is a joy and privilege, sacred work, really, but it also can be very frustrating and discouraging at times. I’d be happy to share more of my story and hear your challenges as you face your own elder care issues. We can encourage each other!
